Green Practices at the Icicle Village Resort
Leavenworth's full service resort
Are you committed to environmental awareness?
The Icicle Village Resort and Best Western Icicle Inn loves it's community and is committed to keeping it beautiful for years to come.
The Icicle Inn has earned an Energy Edge Award signifying excellence in energy efficient design through the use of reliable and efficient technologies from the Chelan County Public Utility District and Bonneville Power Administration. The building has achieved energy efficient levels 30 percent beyond those required by code.
With a commitment to the future of our environment, the resort has decided to use recycled paper for most commercially printed materials, including brochures, letterhead, envelopes, etc. As an added benefit, the paper we've chosen is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) who is a non-profit organization devoted to encouraging the responsible management of the world’s forests. FSC sets high standards that ensure forestry is practiced in an environmentally responsible, socially beneficial, and economically viable way. FSC-US, based in Washington, DC, is the U.S. “chapter” of FSC International, based in Bonn Germany.
Copy paper and printer paper at the resort is also 30% recycled enviro-copy paper.
You will also find incandescent lamps have been replaced with compact fluorescent lamps wherever possible throughout the resort, and you'll find glass coffee cups and tumblers in your room, helping to reduce plastic waste. Guest room toilets are low flow and recently the guest room sink aerators have been changed to reduce water waste
While at the resort you'll find environmental aids that you can use.
For large conferences and gatherings you'll find recycling containers in the ballrooms.
In your accommodations, please consider our guest laundry green program and re-use your towels and sheets multiple days.
Consider taking your opened containers of ProTerra™ earth friendly bath amenities home with you and finish using them.
In J. J. Hills Restaurant to-go boxes and to-go paper coffee cups are made of a compostable material.
What can you do to help the environment while vacationing?
While on vacation, you can still effect the environment:
Consider longer stays at one location to save on mileage.
Drive at the speed limit. Vehicles are designed to reach optimal fuel economy at different speeds and speed ranges. In general, gas mileage decreases rapidly above 60 miles per hour. In general, you'll for every 5 mph you drive over 60 mph you are paying an approximate additional $0.20 per gallon for gas. Learn about more ways to save on fuel at www.fueleconomy.gov.
Shorter showers. Just like at home, you can have an immediate effect on a local environment by reducing the length of your shower. This equates to both water savings and the local energy savings which could be gas or electric.
Green programs. If the overnight accommodations you choose offer environmental programs such as green laundry programs consider taking advantage of them. Not only do they help keep chemical residues from soap and cleaners down, they help reduce energy consumption.
Recycle. Take a few extra seconds to take your cans, bottles, and paper products to the nearest recycling station.
