Leavenworth Chamber Newsletter May 2007
May 18-20 You read about our Spring Bird Fest last month, but they have added an art walk featuring more than 25 local, professional artists. They will be showing their work in businesses during Bird Fest weekend. You will enjoy viewing birds in the natural world with media including drawing, painting, pastels, prints, photographs, ceramics, glass and furniture. In addition to the wonderful art work an Audubon Musical--"Wild Goose Chase" a 30 minute segment written in Leavenworth with New York Collaboration will be performed. June 2 Great Bavarian Walk Raises awareness and money for autoimmune disease research. The 5K, 10K and 1Mile walks are for families, organizations, teams and individuals. People of all ages are encouraged to join the fun! Several lengths of walks are offered with education, contests and food events as part of the day.
One of the best kept secrets in the Leavenworth area is the Sauer Mountain Friendship Trail. Located at the end of Anderson Canyon (off North Rd), the trail is a 2 ˝ mile long loop, offering stunning vistas and hillsides carpeted with wildflowers.
The IMBA sanctioned XC race features a spectacular, but rigorous 8.6 mile loop with 1800 ft elevation gain per lap. Each lap has four creek crossings, challenging single track, and plenty of water bars interlaced throughout the most spectacular scenery you have ever seen. This is not a course for the timid soul, but will challenge all who commit.
The 133rd Army Band of the Washington Army National Guard performs a two-week concert tour around the State during the summer. We are very pleased to be part of their itinerary this year. They will be playing "Music Thru the Decades" in a 90 minute concert featuring Roaring's 20's through the 80's, patriotic songs and big band music. Pre-show--1pm and Concert--7pm at the Gazebo.
June 21-24 Jam sessions, workshops, concerts, dances and the only accordion parade in the United States
L Enjoy wine tasting at nine full-time Tasting Rooms in the Bavarian Village. For this event eight additional local wineries will be participating. Several of the restaurants will be pairing local wines with special menus. This year's Leavenworth Wine Walk is sure to be a vintage event.
