Travels with the Leavenworth Olympian
Torin Koos Photo Story June 2006
This Train Keeps Rolling On…

After the Olympics, the race season kept on. From Italy I headed
north to Scandinavia for my final competitions. The season ended in
the port town of Dramman, Norway with raucous fans line the course.
I finished 20th in the World Cup there, and made the Red Group by
finishing the season as one of the world’s top 30 skiers. Getting
closer, getting closer…

When the race calendar ends, that doesn’t necessarily mean its time
to hang up the skis. I stopped into Montana for a few turns in the
Beehive Basin backcountry with fellow 2006 Olympian Leif Zimmerman.
Nothing like powder skiing in April.

Now don’t think I haven’t forgotten all the Washington springtime
excitement. You can’t tell from this parking lot shot, but the
Cascades got dumped on, making for some epic springtime ski days.
Thanks to Mike Powers and Stevens Pass Nordic for keeping me on
corduroy trails until April 16th, where, after the kilometers had
been acquired, we fire up the grill and throw on a few brats for a
very satisfying, if nutritiously suspect, meal.

With the June days now coming, it’s back to dryland training. Here
I’m mimicking the classic technique in the Wasatch Foothills of
Utah. I hit the books during the summer months in Salt Lake City
before jetting off to New Zealand in August.

Hot weather also means the triathlon scene is beginning to heat up.
Taylor Price (l), a collegiate runner for the Utah State Aggies, and
I head out for a post-race spin after a triathlon in Bountiful,
Utah. So many good times and great memories from the people I’ve met
and friends I’ve made along the way.

If you’re back in the Northwest, you might run into my sister this
summer now that her undergraduate days at St. Olaf College have come
to an end. But she’s not ready to say goodbye to the Midwest just
yet. For her, physical therapy school in Duluth await.
Congratulations Kari.

Until the next time, enjoy, don’t get lost in the fog. When visiting
Leavenworth, don’t forget to visit Icicle Village Resort. When in
town I’ll do the same.
